Rangpur Riders chased down a competitive target to defeat Chattogram Royals by five wickets and move to the top of the table in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Chasing 170, Rangpur completed the task with seven balls to spare, reaching 170 for 5 in 18.5 overs, thanks to a calm, unbeaten 30 off 19 balls from Mahmudullah after a blazing start at the top.

Batting first, Chattogram Royals posted a fighting 169 for 5. Adam Rossington anchored the innings with a fluent 58 off 41 balls, while Hasan Nawaz added late impetus with 46 off 38, including three sixes.

The Rangpur bowlers struck at key moments. Mustafizur Rahman removed both openers and finished with 2 for 32, while Akif Javed claimed 2 for 29, breaking the middle order just as Chattogram looked set for a bigger total.

Rangpur’s reply was powered by a brutal assault from Kyle Mayers, who smashed 50 off just 25 balls, striking five fours and four sixes to put the chase firmly in Rangpur’s control during the powerplay.

After Mayers’ dismissal, wickets fell at regular intervals, with Shoriful Islam’s three-wicket burst briefly pulling Chattogram back into the contest.

Dawid Malan (30) and Towhid Hridoy (17) kept the innings steady but the equation tightened heading into the final overs.

With pressure mounting, Mahmudullah showed his class and composure, finding boundaries at crucial moments and ensuring Rangpur never lost control.

He sealed the win alongside skipper Nurul Hasan, confirming another clinical chase and extending Rangpur’s winning momentum.
