Despite featuring in franchise leagues around the world, Nepal’s star leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane has played only one season in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The 25-year-old has now expressed his desire to return to the tournament if an opportunity arises.

Lamichhane last appeared in the BPL back in 2019, representing Sylhet Sixers, where he picked up four wickets in six matches. Since then, he has not been seen in the competition.

Speaking to Cricfrenzy from Australia, where he is currently participating in the Top End T20 Series, Lamichhane said:
“You never know. If any team approaches me and I am available at that time, I would love to join them. Of course—who wouldn’t? Bangladesh is a beautiful country with wonderful people. Every time I’ve been there, I’ve received a lot of love from the fans. So yes, I would love to return.”

Apart from the BPL, Lamichhane also played two seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Delhi Capitals in 2018 and 2019, taking 13 wickets in nine matches across both editions.
“It was fun. Wherever you go, when you enjoy your cricket and represent your country at the highest level, it’s always a joy. Not only in the IPL, but in every league I’ve played, I’ve enjoyed the experience,” he added.
The leg-spinner, however, endured a lengthy break from cricket due to disciplinary issues and legal battles, which also resulted in a period of suspension. He eventually returned ahead of last year’s T20 World Cup. Looking ahead, Lamichhane now dreams of representing Nepal in the longest format.
“We are all working hard to achieve Test status. Step by step we are moving forward. We played the T20 World Cup last year, and we want to continue playing regularly. But in the future, the big dream is to play Test cricket for Nepal.”
