Next BPL season set for December-January

The uncertainty surrounding the timing of the next Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season has finally been addressed. Following a board meeting held on Sunday, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam Bulbul confirmed that the upcoming BPL will be held between December 2025 and January 2026.

The board meeting also discussed several other key agendas related to the tournament’s structure and franchise participation.

BCB plans to increase transparency in BPL by including an external member on the BPL committee.
Although the exact number of participating teams is yet to be finalized, the BCB has announced that new franchises will be granted five-year contracts.
The board has also stated that it would not hesitate to accept foreign franchises, provided they meet the required standards. Additionally, BCB President has assured that the number of venues will be increased for the upcoming edition of the BPL.

One of the new contenders is Noakhali Royals, whose ownership application was recently submitted by a company named Shayan's Global.

Meanwhile, the UAE-based franchise group Bangla Tigers — who are active in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, Lanka T10, and Zim Afro T10 — have expressed interest in acquiring ownership of the Chattogram franchise.
Among the existing teams, Rangpur Riders, Fortune Barishal, and Dhaka Capitals are expected to continue their participation, pending official confirmation from the board.
More details, including final franchise lineups and player draft schedules, are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
