After missing out on playing last season despite being picked in the draft, Bangladeshi leg-spinner Rishad Hossain is all set for a fresh start with the Hobart Hurricanes in the upcoming Big Bash League.

A clash between Bangladesh’s international schedule and the BPL had kept him from debuting, but this season, with no national duties lined up, Rishad is ready to commit to the full BBL campaign.

The reigning champions Hobart Hurricanes have once again shown faith in the 21-year-old leggie, with former Australian captain and team Head of Strategy Ricky Ponting playing a key role in securing his inclusion. Now, another Australian great, Aaron Finch, has also heaped praise on the young spinner.
“He’s a fantastic leg-spinner. When someone like Ricky Ponting speaks so highly of a player, you know the potential is massive.” Finch said.
Finch highlighted Rishad’s unique bowling style among modern leg-spinners.

“He’s different. He likes to give the ball air, slows it down under pressure, and looks to outfox batters with variation. I’d compare him more to Ish Sodhi than Rashid Khan. Rashid bowls quicker at the stumps, but Rishad uses flight, has an excellent googly, and varies his pace to deceive batters. He bowled really well in the T20 World Cup too.”
Rishad has also impressed Hurricanes captain Nathan Ellis, who spoke of the team’s plans with both Rishad and England’s Rehan Ahmed.
“We’ve brought in Rishad and Rehan to boost our wicket-taking options in the middle overs. We wanted Rishad last year too—this time we’ve got him, and we’re excited to have him on board.”
This season, Rishad is fully registered to play the entire BBL, and with no international commitments for Bangladesh during the tournament window, the stage is finally set for his much-anticipated Australian chapter.
