Mustafiz’s Delhi face ‘Yellow Alert’ ahead of crucial Mumbai clash

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the next four days, predicting heavy rainfall along the Arabian Sea coast. With such forecasts looming, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has urged IPL authorities to consider shifting the match to a different venue.

According to a report from ESPNcricinfo, they have obtained an email sent by Jindal to the IPL management. In the email, Jindal expressed concern that the “virtual quarter-final” could be washed out, calling for the same treatment that was extended to the Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Lucknow Super Giants game, which was moved out of Bengaluru due to similar concerns.
“There is a strong forecast for heavy rain in Mumbai, and the match is highly likely to be abandoned,” Jindal wrote. “In the spirit of fairness and consistency—just as RCB vs LSG was moved—I request that tomorrow’s (today’s) match also be shifted elsewhere. We have known for over six days that May 21 in Mumbai would see heavy rain.”

If the match is washed out, the points will be shared, putting Mumbai at 15 and Mustafizur Rahman’s Delhi at 14 points ahead of their final league matches—both against Punjab Kings.

With rain affecting various regions across India, the IPL has added an extra 120 minutes to the time buffer for all remaining league matches. However, this mid-season rule change has drawn criticism.
Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore emailed the IPL expressing disappointment after their May 17 clash against RCB was abandoned due to rain—leading to KKR’s elimination.
