BCB postpones Towhid Hridoy’s ban for a year after players' intervention

Earlier, Hridoy was handed a two-match suspension in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) for misconduct towards an umpire. That punishment was later reduced to one match after internal bylaw changes. However, the decision drew significant backlash, prompting the DPL’s technical committee to reinstate the original two-match ban. One of those matches has already been served.

Sources confirm that pressure from senior Mohammedan players, particularly skipper Tamim Iqbal, played a key role in BCB's latest decision. The board has now placed Hridoy’s remaining ban on hold for one year. If the 23-year-old batter is found guilty of any disciplinary breach within that time, the suspended match ban will be enforced immediately.
Speaking to the media after a meeting with BCB President Faruq Ahmed, Tamim Iqbal strongly criticized the way the situation was handled, calling the idea of punishing a player twice for the same incident “ridiculous.”

“First he was given a two-match suspension, and no one objected. Then it was reduced to one match. After playing two matches, he was suddenly handed another one-match ban — the whole situation makes no sense. It’s ridiculous,” Tamim said

“Whether there was pressure from Mohammedan to let him play or not is not the issue. The key question is: did the BCB allow him to play? If they did, then he has already served his punishment. So how can he be punished again for the same offense? That’s what we explained to the Board President.” he further added.
