Former Indian skipper and current BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that he is surprised to see host surrender so meekly in the historic day-night Test match at Eden.
Bangladesh lost the second Test by an innings and 46 runs to end their two-match Test campaign on a sore note as they were cleanly swept away by the host.
The Cricket Association of Bengal left no stone unturned to make the occasion successful as well as a memorable one by taking several steps that included many distinguished guests from Bangladesh and India are set to attend the opening day ceremony on November 22.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee rang the customary Eden Bell to start the historic Test match.
The only thing that missed from the original schedule was that army paratroopers did not fly into the Eden Gardens to hand over a pink ball each to the two captains just before the toss.
The city had different places colored in pink as that seems to be the color of the day while the 22 storied TATA building and another 42-storied building will have 3-D mapping.
The historic event was witnessed by the team members of Bangladesh-India first-ever Test in 2000, a game where Ganguly made his debut as Test captain.

Though Bangladesh managed to surprise them in their inaugural Test match by posting over 400 runs on the board, they failed to rise on the historic moment and according to Sourav that was disappointing
‘’I think Bangladesh should have played better than this. It was an historic occasion and I think that it would have been great if they perform well in front of their prime minister,’’ Sourav told reporters at his office at Eden.
‘They actually played really well in that Test. They made 400 runs in one of two innings against us,’’ he said adding that probably the visitors missed some of their key players in the tournament as they were with all-rounder Shakib al Hasan and opener Tamim Iqbal.
While Shakib was banned by ICC for failing to report corrupt approaches by the bookies Tamim opted to rule himself out for being with his wife, who delivered a daughter this week while some of the other members were missing for injury crisis.
‘’Actually they are missing several important players here. They came here without four to five key players. So that’s why they are struggling,’’ he said.
Sourav said that he was happy with the way everyone marked the historic moment while added that he will be available when the country will observe the birth occasion of Bangabandhu from this December.
BCB decided to host a T20 match between World XI and Asia XI to mark the occasion apart from naming the upcoming edition of BPL.
‘’The most important thing is thousands of people were able to watch the grand event from the field. I was not tensed about successfully arranging all the staff but I had to be very busy in this regard,’’ he said.
‘‘I will like to thank Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina for accepting my invitation. When I called her, she gave her consent instantly. She was happy with all the arrangements,’’ he said.
‘‘I have good relations with her since 2000. She was the first-time prime minister when Bangladesh played their inaugural Test against India in the same year,’’ he said.
‘’We actually give her a photo of his father which was golden framed,’’ he said adding his intention to be present when BCB host the match between World XI and Asia XI.
‘I know that Bangladesh is preparing to mark the occasion with lot of arrangements it will be the birth centenary of Bangabandhu. I heard that they will host matches between Asia XI and World XI,’’ he said.
‘’I will definitely present on the occasion,’’ he concluded.
