Barishal spinner Sohag Gazi and Sylhet’s Tawfique Khan Tushar have failed the fitness test ahead of the upcoming National Cricket League (NCL) season, according to a reliable source.

Around 350 cricketers took part in the fitness test at the National Stadium on September 22 ahead of the new NCL season, which begins on October 3.

Players were required to complete four laps of the stadium’s 400-metre track, covering 1,600 metres, within 7 minutes and 20 seconds.

Sohag and Tushar were unable to complete the required distance within the allotted time.

The fitness tests will continue on September 23. Players who fail will get another opportunity after a 10-day gap, with a further chance available after another 10 days if required.

Most of the players completed the test comfortably within the time limit. Sabbir Rahman finished in 6 minutes 22 seconds, while Nurul Hasan Sohan clocked 6:38.

Naim Sheikh recorded 6:19, while Khulna captain Mohammad Mithun completed the run in between 6:49 and 6:55, keeping him eligible to play in the NCL.

Fast bowler Ripon Mondol produced the best time among the tested players, completing the 1,600 metres in just 5 minutes 41 seconds. Anik Deb Barman also impressed with a time of 5:52.

Bangladesh’s latest Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Azizul Hakim Tamim completed the run in under six minutes, while his fellow age-group players including Jawad, Debashish, Alin, Abdullah, Alif and Ratul also posted satisfactory times.
