The 36-year-old, who had been out of the national team for over five years, confirmed his decision through a post on his official Facebook page.
His last appearances for Bangladesh came in 2020 in Tests, and in 2021 in both ODIs and T20Is.
Despite remaining active in domestic competitions intermittently, including stints in the Dhaka Premier League and the Bangladesh Premier League, opportunities at the top level had become increasingly limited.
In his Facebook statement, Rubel wrote:
“I am pacer Rubel Hossain. I have played 27 Tests, 104 ODIs and 28 T20Is for Bangladesh. The national team is my emotion. But there comes a time when you have to say goodbye to international cricket. With that in mind, I am bidding farewell to international cricket,
“However, I wish to continue playing domestic cricket. I thank my family, friends, media personnel and fans. I hope you will continue to support me in the days ahead. Much love to everyone.”
Rubel leaves behind a notable international record, having represented Bangladesh in 159 matches across formats, and will now focus on continuing his career in domestic cricket.
