After months of anticipation, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) directors’ election kicked off in Dhaka today, an event marked by grandeur but short on enthusiasm.

The voting began at 10:00am at Hotel Sonargaon and will continue until 4:00pm.

A total of 157 councillors are expected to elect 17 directors from 28 candidates. However, 58 votes were already cast electronically last night, leaving 99 councillors to vote in person.

Despite the proceedings, several councillors are reportedly boycotting the election, citing “government interference,” which may result in a significant number of uncast ballots.

Incumbent board president and frontrunner Aminul Islam Bulbul cast his vote earlier in the morning.

This election will determine the 25-member board of directors responsible for overseeing Bangladesh’s wealthiest sports organization over the next four years.

Six directors from Category 1 (Districts and Divisions) have already been elected unopposed, while the National Sports Council (NSC) will appoint two directors.

Once the new board is finalized, the elected directors are expected to meet tonight to choose the next BCB president from among themselves.
