Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has expressed his hope that the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections will be held without any government interference.

Speaking at a press conference at a hotel in Dhaka on Sunday (September 21), Tamim said, “We expect that there will be no bias in the election and no government involvement.”

Tamim revealed that he had met with the Sports Adviser a few days ago. “I told him one thing, I don’t want anything from you except a fair election. I made no other demands. But since then, what I have started noticing at district, divisional, and club levels doesn’t look right. There is a lot of interference from different government quarters,” he added.

He further stated, “Some things have happened that I cannot prove, while others I will be able to provide evidence for.”

Tamim also raised questions about the activities of current BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul, accusing him of abusing his power.

Tamim referred to Bulbul's recent interview: “He [Bulbu] said he has no idea how the election process works. But if he doesn’t know anything, then how did he sign such a major letter where it was suggested that former councilors be excluded and only members approved by the ad-hoc committee be allowed? All previous letters carried the CEO’s signature, but this one bore his. Clearly, he is aware of many things.”

Tamim criticized the ongoing practices, saying, “I believe we don’t need to indulge in this kind of dirtiness. Cricket is for everyone, not for any political party. Elections should be fair, impartial, and free from government interference. That is our expectation.”

Concluding his remarks, Tamim said, “I just want a fair election. Once it’s held, whoever comes to office should be welcomed by all of us.”
