Officials emphasized that the aim is to expand cricket activities across all regions, ensuring regular opportunities for district-level players who have long been excluded from the national setup.

Habibul Bashar noted, “With regional cricket, each zone will have its own league and tournaments. This will allow everyone to play. In Dhaka, not everyone gets a chance, but this system creates opportunities for all. Many talented players remain unseen, and this will help bring them forward.”

He further added, “Once regional cricket is established, hidden talents will no longer remain hidden. They will get the chance to play in all formats T20s, ODIs, and more.”

Akram Khan described the tournament as a “pilot project,” saying, “We have organized this in a rush—it’s neither in-season nor entirely off-season. It’s a risk we’ve taken, but it opens up a new pathway for the future. Chattogram division has 11 districts, and never before have all of them played together. This is not just good for Chattogram’s cricketers but for Bangladesh cricket overall.”

BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul stressed the importance of scouting the next generation of stars like Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal.

He also highlighted the need to restructure school cricket. “Cricket is centrally controlled, but if it can be synchronized with regional cricket, it will spread further. Decentralization isn’t just about competition it’s about building a cricketing environment in every district.”

He added, “The next Tamim, Shakib, Mushfiqur, and Riyad are all still in school. It is our responsibility to guide these talents properly. School cricket will be organized in a new way this time.”
