Bangladesh are currently locking horns with Sri Lanka in the first Test of the two-match series at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. At the heart of this batting masterclass is veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim, whose superb knock powered Bangladesh’s charge.

Mushfiqur played a magnificent innings, scoring 163 off 350 balls to register his 12th Test century. In the process, he broke multiple significant records.

He now holds the world record for the most international runs by a player who has never bowled a single delivery — surpassing Australia’s Adam Gilchrist. Mushfiqur’s tally now stands at 15,502 international runs, eclipsing Gilchrist’s 15,461.

At 38 years and 39 days old, Mushfiqur also became the oldest non-opening batter to score a Test century, breaking the previous record held by Pakistan’s Younis Khan, who scored a hundred at the age of 37 years and 216 days against Sri Lanka in 2015.

Additionally, Mushfiqur overtook Mohammad Ashraful to become the highest run-scorer for Bangladesh in Tests played on Sri Lankan soil — a further testament to his enduring class and consistency.
