In a bold move, eight directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have sent a formal letter to Youth and Sports Adviser, calling for the removal of BCB President Faruque Ahmed. The directors have accused Faruque of running the board in an autocratic manner.

The signatories of the letter include Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, Mahbub Anam, Fahim Sinha, Saiful Islam Swapon Chowdhury, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, Kazi Inam Ahmed, Manzur Alam, and Mohammad Salahuddin Chowdhury.

In a detailed letter, the directors allege that Faruque has been making key decisions unilaterally, bypassing the board and its committees—most notably in the recent sacking of head coach Chandika Hathurusingha. They claim this action violates Clause 14(b) of the BCB constitution, which mandates board approval for such decisions.
The directors have further alleged that Faruque has effectively “seized control” of the board, sidelining collective decision-making and creating a climate of fear, favoritism, and undue interference in both national team affairs and domestic cricket.

The letter also raises serious concerns about financial misconduct, highlighting that the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) was handed to a company owned by a fellow board director without a transparent bidding process—an act they say breaches procurement guidelines and raises conflict of interest issues.

Additionally, the directors accuse Faruque of placing underqualified and controversial figures—some allegedly with criminal histories—into important administrative roles, ignoring capable and experienced professionals in the process. They argue that loyalty and personal ties have taken precedence over merit.
Citing Bangladesh’s drop to 10th in the ICC rankings, the directors blame Faruque’s poor leadership for the decline. They also criticize his unwillingness to initiate a long-promised white paper on past corruption within the board and his failure to push for constitutional reforms.
The letter also mentions irregularities in domestic cricket operations, including the questionable inclusion of underqualified franchises in the BPL—such as Durbar Rajshahi and Chittagong Kings—allegedly linked to the president’s allies.
Concerns were also raised about manipulation in club-level elections, particularly in Dhaka, through the sudden addition of voters associated with Faruque’s inner circle.
The directors have urged the Ministry to launch a thorough investigation into these allegations and take legal and administrative steps to protect the integrity and future of Bangladesh cricket.
