Bangladesh to receive $720K for seventh-place finish in WTC

Bangladesh are set to earn $720,000 for finishing seventh in the 2023–25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, following the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) announcement on Thursday of a significant increase in prize money for the tournament.
This cycle marked Bangladesh’s most successful WTC campaign to date, with the team winning four out of 12 Test matches. Impressively, three of those victories came on foreign soil — a 2-0 series sweep against Pakistan and a win against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

Their lone home victory came against New Zealand in December 2023.
In contrast, Bangladesh had only managed a single win across the previous two WTC editions — a historic triumph over New Zealand at Mount Maunganui in the 2021–2023 cycle, after going winless in their debut campaign from 2019 to 2021.
As for the WTC Final, which will take place at Lord’s from June 11 to 15 between Australia and South Africa, the winners are set to receive a record $3.6 million — more than double the prize money awarded to New Zealand in 2021 and Australia in 2023.

The losing finalists, too, will earn more than the earlier top prize money, assured of more than $2.1 million this time. The winners of the previous two editions won $1.6 million while the losing finalists got $800,000.
