Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan will have to pass mandatory fitness test to take part in the upcoming Bangabandhu T20 tournament, said BCB officials on Sunday.

Shakib will be eligible to resume playing competitive cricket from October 29 following the one-year ban he received from the ICC for failing to disclose a corrupt approach from bookies. National selector Habibul Bashar said that Shakib will have to prove his eligibility by securing required points in beep test adding that he is confident it won’t be a problem for him.

‘’Shakib will have to pass the mandatory beep test. I am sure it won’t be a problem considering he had worked hard in the recent past,’’ said Habibul on Sunday.

Shakib stayed with his in-laws in the US for over five months before returning to Bangladesh on September 2. Three days later, he began an intense individual training programme at the BKSP away from the media spotlight. The training camp had to stop after four weeks and his plan to make an international comeback during the Test series against Sri Lanka was put on hold with the series being postponed.

BCB earlier announced that the players selected in the draft list for the tournament will have to undergo mandatory fitness tests before being considered eligible for the competition.

The schedule for the fitness test will be announced after the finalization of the player list for the draft while BCB decided that cricketers will have to get 11 in the beep test.

BCB national selectors have announced that cricketers who are on the draft list for the upcoming T20 tournament, scheduled for next November-December, will have to undergo mandatory fitness tests before being considered eligible for the competition.

Cricketers, who may have been outside the setup, and was not part of the individual fitness work done by the National Team, HP and Under-19 cricketers during the lockdown, will have to show the required fitness as they are resuming cricket after a while following enforced break for corona pandemic.
