The effects of the devastating coronavirus pandemic are everywhere especially in the world economy whose severity has also fallen on the global sports sectors. The cricket boards all over the world are in trouble to manage even a momentary sponsorship for their respective team.

It is seen in India and Pakistan cricket. When VIVO pulled out of the IPL sponsorship, India had to struggle to manage sponsorship for the 2020 IPL edition. Later they sold it to Dream11 by Rs 222 crore, half of the previous sponsorship deal.

Pakistan, on the other hand, was crumbling to manage a sponsor for the team ahead of their England tour. Later, Shahid Afridi provided the sponsor through his foundation.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is walking the same path to manage a short-term sponsorship for the team. This time the BCB like the other cricket boards across the globe will not go for a long-term sponsorship deal for the national cricket team because of the current corona situation of the country and the world as well.

BCB Chief Executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury gave such an indication to the media prior to the crucial Test series in Sri Lanka.

Nizamuddin said they are attempting to manage a sponsor for the Tigers’ upcoming Test series in Sri Lanka, the series which comprises three Tests scheduled to be commenced from October 24.

“There is no sponsor for our national team right now. If the games will not be held, the sponsor will not come. In that case, we are facing loss whatever it is,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury.

“As of now, we’re looking for a sponsor for our team. We will strike a contract on a temporary basis. And, we will, therefore, go for a long-term deal,” Chowdhury told the media.

“The overall market situation will, in the meantime, become normal. We are not in any hurry until the market becomes normal. Now we are trying for a Sri Lanka tour. Later we’ll try to go for the long-term deal,” he added.

He said the deadline of the media right has also been finished for which they have to look for sponsorship for the media rights like the team sponsorships.

“The things will happen in the case of the media right along with the other sponsorships,” the BCB CEO said.
