McKenzie back Shakib at three

All-rounder Shakib al Hasan should bat at number three in the upcoming days as it allows him to get some time to settle before launching him in full scale, said former Tigers batting consultant Neil McKenzie.
Shakib moved to number three in the World Cup and and showcased the true extent of his batting skill and he did so with distinction, accumulating 606 runs at an average of 86.57, while striking at 96.03.
‘’I think Shakib at three was awesome. Player of his quality obviously always gets a positive mindset. At three it’s a special place and a nice place to bat and I think he really relished that opportunity and went to the uphill. I think he made one or two technical changes which is quite easy with a player of his stature,’’ said McKenzie.
‘’He always finds a way even if he is out of nick or technically not up there with his mindset and ability along with experience find a way to be effective. The way he came to the tournament his mindset and the technical thing that he had done put him in a good frame of mind. And he led from the front in Bangladesh and some of his innings were sublime. Just when I am talk about finding a way with fast men coming just walked in and deflected the ball. He played some great knocks,’’ he said.
‘’I think he is very suited at number three and he can bat anywhere in the batting lineup. Three just give him little more time to get in and play good cricket shots. He is not a huge hitter of the ball but he is very sweet timer of the ball and probably a skilled hitter.
‘’He plays some great shots against good balls just like Hashim Amla does and he hit some good balls for fours and that put bowler under pressure. He is good reader of situation and having your best batsman and number three is definitely a plus for Bangladesh,’’ he said.
