Bangladesh women’s pace spearhead Jahanara Alam said she feels quite well to have returned to the cricket field with their individual training after a lengthy corona-enforced break.

Jahanara worked on her bowling at Shyamoly Academy under a local coach in between June and July to keep her sound and fit for the competitive cricket matches.

“I’m feeling so much happy to have bowled after a long break,” said Jaharana Alam, who represented Bangladesh 37 ODIs and 71T20Is after being bought into international cricket.

“I’ve seen in TV and newspapers that many of the players feel discomfort coming to have individual training after a long break but I feel no such thing. I was scared of seeing them and thought how we will address it in such a situation if we have to face it,” Jahanara told in a video message provided by the BCB.

“Alhamdulillah, I have nothing to do. Basically I started practicing from August 6 upon returning to Dhaka on August 5. I have done coaching at Shyamoly Academy beside my batting practice. I’m doing nice fielding. To see me, the coach told me it does not seem that you were out of cricket for the last five months,”.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) prepared a training schedule for the national women’s cricketers so that they can gain their fitness and gradually step into the main practice with bat and ball to hone their skills and techniques for the next games.

Along with that, they have set a target for the bowlers to bowl three overs only in the initial stage. Coming outside of cricket for so long, they can easily prevent them from injury scars.

“I’ve worked on my bowling along with gym work. We’ve given a three-day schedule for the individual training sessions. We’ve another two days for a pace bowling session. Today I have bowling practice, where I have bowled three overs in between 12:01pm-12:30pm. We’re allowed to bowling three overs in our initial training week,” the 27-year-old pacer said.

“I feel pains in my back, neck and shoulder after the first day training especially when I got up from sleep the next day. I have bowled today. I could understand how much pain I felt the next morning. I don’t feel much of a problem because I have done practice for one month from June 15 to July 15 for which I’m feeling better than others,” she added.

Lauding BCB for their initiative for the women’s cricketers beside its male cricketers, the pacer said the little bit problems they have in their bowling will be mitigated with the passage of time.

“Overall, I’m feeling well. After a long break, I bowled and walked in the stadium. It’s an outstanding feeling. Thanks to BCB for giving us the training facilities like the male cricketers. We haven’t told them anything about our training. The BCB provided practice facilities to us in their own initiative,” she said.

“It seems to me that I have returned to practice after just a week. I could understand tomorrow morning how my shoulder is. There will be a bit of problem in line and length while bowling outside after a long break. I could place my bowling 14 times in my areas with swing, out of 18 times. The rest of the balls have made wide-length what I didn’t want. There will be a break in five months. Overall, I am satisfied to see my bowling,” she concluded.
