Youth Cricket League named after Sheikh Kamal

Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to name the Youth cricket league after ‘Shaheed Sheikh Kamal Youth Cricket League’ from the next edition of the event, BCB said in a press release on Thursday.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board yesterday celebrated the 71st birthday of Sheikh Kamal, who is known to be the architect of modern sports in Bangladesh.
Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated with the rest of his family on the fateful night of August 15, 1975, at the age of 26.

The YCL is an annual four-team Under-19 competition organised by Game Development BCB consisting of a four-day and a one-day match in each round.
Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan Papon remembered Sheikh Kamal’s immense contribution in Bangladesh sports and decided to name the Youth Cricket League after him.
‘’We have decided to name our Youth Cricket League as ‘Shaheed Sheikh Kamal Youth Cricket League’ considering his immense contribution towards our sports,’’ BCB president Nazmul Hasan was quoted in a VDO message on Thursday.
Sheikh Kamal was known to bowl quickly. He played Sher-e-Bangla Cup for Gendaria Cricketers and National Cricket Championship for the University of Dhaka in the 1974-75 season. He also led Abahani to their first division league title 1974 and took five wickets for 28 runs against old club Gendaria once as well
