Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said they need to be circumspect from the beginning of the newly-introduced Cricket World Cup Super League so that no chance goes past under their hand.
And if we can make sure of each opportunity, Nannu thinks that it’s obviously possible to avert discomfiture regarding qualifying in the Cricket World Cup Super League.
Citing the words of West Indies and Afghanistan, Nannu also said it’s nothing new to all as last year the mentioned teams booked their respective place by playing the qualifier.
“It’s not completely new because in the last World Cup West Indies and Afghanistan secured their place in the global by playing in the qualifying round,” said Minhajul Abedin.
“We need to make sure that we grab all our chances in the coming ODI series because if we fail to do it that we might put us in trouble,” Nannu told web portal Cricfrenzy.com.

“We’re among the top eight ODI nations in ICC ranking wise but that does not imply our place is secured and so every game is important to us in the coming days,” he added.
“We’ll begin cricket after nearly a four month break due to the corona pandemic and at the moment our main priority is to make sure boys regain their form and fitness at the earliest point of time,” he said pointing his fingers towards the training camp that they are planning to launch from mid August to make sure cricketers are well aware before beginning their international assignments.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) last Monday made sure that the Cricket World Cup Super League will officially be kick-started with the upcoming ODI series between England and Ireland, the series which will begin on July 30.
The World Cup Super League was introduced alongside the World Test Championship (WTC) by the ICC after a unanimous announcement in June 2018 to provide a context to ODI cricket by acting as a qualification pathway to determine participants for the 2023 Men’s World Cup in India.
A total of 213 teams, including Netherlands who secured their direct qualification to the 2023 World Cup winning the ICC World Cricket League 2015-17, will feature in the Super League with the top seven teams besides hosts India.
Each team will play four series at home and four away, with teams awarded 10 points for a win and 5 for no result or Tie over the course of the league. All Super League assignments will be three-match series although teams will be free to schedule additional games, results of which will not be considered for the league points.
The five bottom sides from the league will fight for the final two spots of the 10-team showpiece event at the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier, where there’ll be joined by Associate countries that have progressed from the Cricket World Cup League-2 as well as the two Cricket World Cup Challenge Leagues via the Qualifier Playoff.
Minhajul added that the challenge will be to get as many points as possible with the lower ranked side when they are coming face to face in a bilateral series and make sure they can get some points against the higher ranked team as well.
“Look we won’t be playing with higher ranked team in the coming days and for us the gate away for the World Cup without playing the qualifier is by getting few points against higher ranked team while we need to make sure that we don’t lose any points against lower ranked side because that might hurt us badly in the long run,” the chief selector said.
“There is an added pressure of expectation when we’re playing against a lower-ranked side and we must overcome it and deliver to play in the showpiece event without any trouble,” he concluded.
