Even if it is frequently heard a regret from the different federations, associations and confederation of the sports arena in Bangladesh that they have a deficit of budget, such discontent is rare in case of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

No doubt, the BCB is the richest sports federation in the country. Sometimes they assist the other sports federations with financial aids to meet up their financial deficits.

Though the team sponsor, series sponsor, media rights (TV right) and advertisement in the stadium are the BCB’s source of income, their main source of revenue comes from the International Cricket Council (ICC). The BCB like every cricket board annually gets a share of revenue from the world cricket apex entity.

But every board does not get ICC revenue equally. It depends on event management rankings. In this case, Bangladesh placed fifth in the ICC.

ICC distributed a total of 86 percent of their revenue among the full member countries and the rest of 14 percent goes to its associated members. Again, the full member countries did not get an equal revenue from 86% revenue.

The ICC revenue distributes more revenue to those member countries that provide more revenue to the ICC revenue fund where the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tops in the list.

Basically the prime source of income of ICC is media rights also. The world cricket apex body meanwhile sold their media rights for eight years (2015-2023). The main customer is Star India. Basically ICC distributes the money that comes from TV rights among its member countries (full and associates). India gets 22.8 percent of it alone.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) gets 7.2 percent of the ICC’s total revenue whose financial price is US$ 128 million. It stands BD TK 1,088 crore (one dollar=Tk 85). They didn’t get the amount of money at a time. BCB gets its share every year in the aftermath of the ICC’s annual income-loss.

West Indies Cricket (WIC) got US$ seven million from this fund this year. The BCB will also get their share of money. It stands at about Tk 60 crore.

Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh among the Test playing nations get 7.2 percent from ICC’s total revenues. Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) get 5.3 percent-the lowest amount of money.

India, the main provider of ICC’s revenue, draws 22.8 percent alone, while England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) receive the second highest of 7.8 percent. As per the accounts, India will get a staggering amount of US$405 million from ICC in the eight-year-cycle (2015-2023).

ICC agreed to pay India US$ 293 million as per the previous agreement. But ICC chairman Shashank Manohar increased their billings of the ICC revenue for India further during his two-term chairmanship period in ICC.
