Bangladesh Cricket Board officials said on Wednesday that they were unable to upgrade the training facilities in the country due to the ongoing corona virus pandemic.

During the players movement in October they demanded proper training facilities across the country and included it in their 13-point demand.

While the indoor facilities at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka are almost in a tip-top condition but that is not the case outside Dhaka.

Earlier, Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] mentioned on 2 July through a media release that eight venues all around the country are fully equipped for cricketers to use. But the real picture says a different story.

‘’One of the 13 points of our movement was to ensure an improved system for practice as the prevailing facilities is unsuitable for a Test playing country," said a cricketer on not to be named.

BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that they were planning to improve the facilities but the outbreak of corona stopped it for the time being. "Of course, these need to be improved. It could have happened earlier. But it got late because of the pandemic," Nizamuddin said.

He also said that the National Sports Council are the owner of the indoors and they should look after the infrastructure, BCB is just meant to see the decorations.

"National Sports Council is the owner of the indoors. It is their job to build the infrastructure. They have to look after things like water leaking from the roof. As a user, BCB only sees the decoration," he added.

The scarcity of bowling machine that cost around three to eight lakhs is considered to be another hindrance behind developing proper training system across the country.

"There is no doubt that we do not have enough bowling machines," said a cricket coach working with grass root level cricketers.

To get fully prepared cricketers are in need of proper facilities, BCB is now considered as one of the highest-grossing sports federation of the country, who also supports other federations for improvement, but their own area is good on top, bad on the inside.
