Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] has begun a new initiative of allowing its players to borrow training equipment from their facilities and veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has been the first cricketer to grab the opportunity.

Mushfiqur has been training at home from the beginning of the lockdown and to gear up his intense training at home he paid a visit to the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday to borrow some training equipment from the BCB gym.

BCB recently instructed venue officials all around to issue gym equipment to the national team players as per their requirement.

Rabeed Imam, Senior media manager of BCB told an English daily that the cricketers can take training gears from BCB gymnasiums just like the students borrow books from a library.

"Mushfiq came to pick up gym equipment. Now we are allowing cricketers to issue gym equipment from his or her nearby BCB facility so that cricketers can stay fit at home," Rabeed said.

Rabeed also believes that players who don’t have proper training equipment will be hugely benefited from this initiative.

"Items like weights, dumbbell, and various types of stretching bands are available for the cricketers," he said.

Mushfiqur has been undoubtedly the most hard-working player of the Bangladesh team. Due to the coronavirus pandemic situation, Mushfiqur hasn't been gone to the stadium to perform his daily practice session. But the COVID-19 didn't suppress him at all as he continued to do his day to day fitness practice while being at home house arrest.

For his love and passion towards practice and keeping himself fit he once urged the Bangladesh Cricket Board to reopen the grounds so that he can use the stadiums facilities and work on his fitness and skill training. But BCB relucted to reopen and turned down his request initially, but that couldn't stop Mushfiqur from training hard as he started to do even more intense training at his residence with the help of a treadmill and a few other exercise tools. Which can be seen in his official Facebook handle where he anyone can see him sweating out on the treadmill or doing weight lifting training with a kettlebell. Not only that he started to run at his area lane and doing knocking and keeping practice at his garage.

Though Minhajul Abedin, chief selector of BCB dropped all the hints of training resumption of the national team’s by the end of this month, Mushfiq wrote on Instagram handle while posting a picture about the current situation.

"Only Almighty knows when we can restart again," the caption of Mushfiq’s Instagram upload read.

Joydeep Das, venue manager of Sylhet International Cricket Stadium said that under the new instructions, pacers Abu Jayed and Khaled Ahmed were also issued some training gears.

"Yes, now the national team cricketers can pick up training gears from our gymnasium. Two cricketers from Sylhet, Rahee [Jayed] and Khaled already picked few items from our inventory," he said.

"They took few things for weight training; weights, dumbbells those sorts of things," he added.
