Leading Bangladesh players are hugely disappointed with the cancelation of all the scheduled Test matches this year due to the escalating COVID-19 virus pandemic.
Bangladesh were supposed to play the most number of Test matches this year for the instrumentality of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) but that seals a long past distinct now.
The Tigers usually play 5 to 6 Test matches in a calendar year as the bulk of the big teams often do not call to play on their home soil. If everything would have been gone as per the expected plan, Bangladesh would have played 10 matches in this calendar year.
Bangladesh Test cricket still needs a lot to improve among all the formats they play. The Tigers have suffered back to back three innings losses to both India and Pakistan when they play them before the COVID-19 pandemic and losing against newly-promoted Test nation Afghanistan in Chittagong has really questioned Bangladesh Test credentials.
Bangladesh came back strongly against Zimbabwe in the solitary Test match in which their winning by an innings was a big achievement for the Tigers.

Mushfiquer Rahim, who scored a double century in his last Test innings against Zimbabwe, was ready with his preparation but can’t do anything with the natural disasters.
“I feel bad that I scored a double century in the last Test, I was in good rhythm, had good preparation, I was confident that I would play well in the Tests this year. Nothing happened,” Mushfiqur Rahim said.
“But no one has a hand in natural disasters. These are our challenges to keep ourselves fit and ready. We’ll definitely get many Test matches ahead. I always believe that whatever God does. He does for the betterment of the human being. Whenever the opportunity arises, I have to be ready to take myself and the team to the next level,” he added.
Bangladesh ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal is fully frustrated with the cancelation of all the scheduled Test matches.
“This frustration can’t be described. We don’t have much chance to play 10 Tests in a year. Who knows when it will happen again? Of course, it’s a bad feeling. But the time is such that I don’t really see the opportunity to think too much about cricket. The security of me and my family is the main right now. If I survive, I can play cricket a lot,” said Tamim Iqbal.
“The positive side is no series has been cancelled. It got postponed. That means there is a chance to happen again. I hope the games will be played in the new schedule again when the COVID situation will be under control. We’ll then see that we’ll have a lot of matches,” Tamim said further.
Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque, who only played Test matches for the Tigers, is also disappointed with missing so many Test matches in his career.
“We don’t get a chance to play too many Tests. This time there was a big opportunity. It was also a great opportunity for those of us who play regular Tests. That disappointment will remain always. But the epidemic is now going on; no one has anything to do. Nothing is bigger than life. I’m not a person who is frustrated because the game is not being played,” Mominul Haque said.
“I would rather be prepared for the challenges of the future. When the matches will start, there will be too many matches. There will be one match after another. It’ll be very stressful. I have to prepare myself for that time to be ready both physically and mentally. This break should be used as efficiently as possible, to stay positive,” he added.
