Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is going to launch an app to monitor the health and track the COVID-19 symptom of 70 top-tier cricketers.

It has been known that the app name is ‘COVID-19 well-being app’. The BCB had a number of apps installed for various purposes to date but this app will be the newest addition to the BCB fleet.

“Around 70 players will be covered by this app including nationally contracted players [both men and women] and the Under-19 players,” BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said.

“At the moment, we’re not able to bring everyone under this app. But step by step we will add many more. One by one, support staff and others will also be added. In the beginning, we are bringing about 70 cricketers into the process,” Nizamuddin told a Bengali daily.

“There are 30-35 potential cricketers of the national team. Among them there are contracted cricketers. There are also contracted women cricketers. The cricketers of the Under-19 World Cup winning team have also been included,” he added.

Chowdhury tipped it as an athlete management software, stating that they are using some software and this app can be called an extended part of that.

Initially for logging in players have to go through some questionnaires and for this they have to pass through these questions every morning, said by BCB chief.

“Cricketers will download this app on their mobiles first. After then, they will have to give answers to some of the questions through the app. The first step will be done. Then every morning they will enter this app and answer certain questions. It will take them a maximum of 30-40 seconds to do this. That's all,” Nizamuddin added.

“It would have been very difficult to call 70 cricketers every day to inquire about their health. We can easily know that now through this app,” he added.

Nasir Ahmed, MIS [Management Information System] Manager, BCB, gave an idea about the app,

“We’ll put a total of 18 questions. Most are based on the symptoms of COVID-19. Players will give information about who has slept for what amount of time, whether there is fever or body aches, whether they are suffering from dysentery, whether they have come in contact with any COVID-19 patients, how their mental state is, etc.”

“Every day they will report this information. Their answers will be marked in red, blue and yellow. The app will automatically tell who is in which zone. Then the medical department will look after the rest,” he said.
