Iconic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s playing chance of the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup makes brighter after Cricket Australia (CA) Chairman expressed his doubts in holding the extravaganza amid the mounting coronavirus pandemic.

While International Cricket Council (ICC) was not taking their final decision to take the final decision to patronize the flagship event in the teeth of the member countries’ interest, the AC Chairman Earl Eddings’ indecision threw them into jeopardy further.

Already the world cricket apex body held two meetings via teleconference but they are yet to reach a final conclusion and set another date for the meeting next month, the third meeting which may influence the world body whether it can be rescheduled or delayed.

In that case, the possibility of Shakib’s participation will become wider as his one-year ban is all set to be lifted on October 29.

But there are a few chances for him if the mega event would start on the erstwhile schedule (October 18) because the ICC won’t allow Bangladesh to bring any change in their team in the middle of the tournament.

On the news of Australia’s doubts to hold the 2020 World Cup in October, the fans of Bangladesh are happy because they will see their popular-face cricketer Shakib Al Hasan once again in action. Along with them, BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu is happy.

Nannu admits that they will be happy if the tournament does not happen on a scheduled date because it will give them the opportunity to include Shakib in the squad.

“If we get the service of Shakib, we’ll obviously be benefitted for him. You know our chance in the T20 World Cup will definitely be enhanced if Shakib plays for Bangladesh,” Minahjul Abedin said.

Expressing his doubts about holding the World Cup in time, Nannu said it’s really difficult to think about cricket in the present circumstances.

“We’ll get adequate time to build our team if the tournament is deferred for some time because it’ll also give us the opportunity to experiment with the new players that will simplify to form a good and balance team for the World Cup,” Minhajul said.

“I’m in the favour of bringing cricket back after the tricky situation is over. We have to think about the safety of the players first and then the other benefits. If the things become normal, we’ll also have to allow them sometime to recover. We need to see their fitness, health issues, skills and others because they will play cricket in the field,” he added.

In addition, Bangladesh have been pitted with Scotland, Namibia and the Netherlands in Group-B, where they will clash against those three rival-teams on October 19, 21 and 23 respectively. Group-A has been formed by Sri Lanka, Oman, Ireland and Papua New Guinea.

These teams will play round-1, from where champions and runners each group will make them available for the next round of Super Twelve, where the top-ranked eight teams have ensured their direct access.
