Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has said that mental health is a vital ingredient in cricket but there was always a lack of mental health awareness in them that creates a barrier in Tigers’ progress.

Citing the words of the big and star players across the world likes of Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Kane Williamson, Eoin Morgan, Mashrafe said the world’s best players always talk about a strong mentality to achieve their goals in the game of cricket.

But the mental health in Bangladesh has always been shown as lame excuses as Mashrafe added that they can’t talk about mental health in their society freely as it has been overlooked over the years.

“Mental health is not as important to us here. Our social reality is different. We don’t have the opportunity here to talk about depression as Marcus Trescothick or Glenn Maxwell can,” Mortaza Bin Mortaza said.

“If someone says he’s not feeling good then we may assume he is scared or making an excuse. Many people even do not feel that way. Those who don’t express or feel the need to do so,” Mashrafe told media.

Mashrafe, who is also a lawmaker in the country, has expressed that he has worked in his own style during the COVID-19 Pandemic in the country to help the distressed and poor people around him.

“To be honest I don’t know what happened in other places. I worked in my own style. Now things can be good or bad. This is normal when everyone will say good then it will be good when everyone will feel bad then it will be bad,” the charismatic cricketer said.

“I had to go to Narail twice even though I have asthma. Then I came and quarantined myself for 14 days because there are children at home. I felt that as I’m still young so I should do as much as I could,” he concluded.
