Liton, Soumya reveal secrets of choosing jersey numbers

The names of Liton Kumar Das and Soumya Sarkar in Bangladesh cricket are now known well to people in and out of cricket as they have carved their names in the ranks with their jaw-dropping performance.

The promising duo made a stunning revelation about their secrets of jersey selection and its number while they were starting their cricket career.

Every cricketer is fastidious about selecting their jersey number when they picked for the national team or when they started their career as most of them played their entire career wearing that jersey.

In this case, Liton is a bit different. Even though Liton is playing with No 19 jersey, he is yet to get his desirable jersey. Once he wishes to get the No.2 jersey. But Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, the brightest of Bangladesh cricket plays with the jersey.   

Liton though did not forget his favorite jersey number in the team decided to change with his birthday number 16.

“When I first played in domestic cricket, my jersey No was 02. And there was a reason behind this. The reason is, when I played my first game with a cricket ball, I scored two runs. So I chose two as my jersey No,” said Liton Kumar Das.

“But when I got selected for Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) team, jersey No 02 was occupied as Mashrafe (Bin Mortaza) bhai wore that number,” Liton said.

“I, therefore, asked my mother what I will wear, she told me to wear whatever I like. I then chose 19 for BPL. Later I again chose 02 as jersey number and in Abahani (Limited) I scored a lot of runs. But the thing is jersey No 02 was not available all the time as, whenever I played with Mashrafe bhai, in BPL or any other place. I had to change the number,” he added.

“Later I decided that since my birthday is on the 16th, my jersey number will be 16. And that’s fixed now and I will hold on to it as long as I play cricket,” he pointed out.
