CWAB lends hand to Ashiqur

Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh said that they will be beside former BCB coach Ashiqur Rahman Majumdar, who is admitted to hospital after being tested corona positive.


BCB, as well as the entire cricket fraternity, came face to face with COVID-19 on Tuesday when former Under-19 pace bowler and former BCB game development coach Mohammad Ashiqur revealed that he had tested positive and currently admitted to hospital.


The pace bowler, who was part of the Under-19 World Cup squad in 2002, was tested positive and was immediately rushed to Mugda Hospital and being looked after there.


CWAB member secretary Debabrata Paul said that they are looking after the well being Ashiqur since learning about the tragedy like providing everything he need in hospital from food to stuff everything. Also if he requires money then CWAB will provide that also.


‘’We are beside him and trying to provide all kind of support to him as he had worked with us we are constantly talking with him. It is not like financial support whatever he will need we will try to provide,

‘’Today doctor took their[ wife and daughter] blood samples and will give the report tomorrow or day after tomorrow. We are providing all kinds of support to him and also in contact with him all the time.


‘’We are beside him and we also booked the room in which he is now staying in the hospital. Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO is also looking after him,’’ he said.

‘’I got admitted Tuesday afternoon,’’ Ashiqur told daily sun with a choking voice.


‘’Got the report yesterday and the report says COVID-19 positive,’’ he said.


Ashiqur said that he had some cold for the last couple of days and only went to the doctor when he felt some chest pain.


‘’I didn't understand it at first. I thought I swollen tonsil, I had a sore throat at first, then slowly comes fever, then started to have chest pain and went to the doctor where and later done my Test,’’ he said adding that the only inspiration for him is none other than Swami Vivekananda ideology.


‘’We born to fight we born to live,’’ he said


Ashiqur played 15 First-Class matches and 18 List A games where he picked 36 and 21 wickets respectively.


His major breakthrough came while working with the women’s cricket team as assistant coach while he was currently working for Prime Bank in the Dhaka Premier League.
