Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul said on Saturday toppling Afghanistan in the shortest format will help them gain confidence ahead of the ICC World Twenty20.
Bangladesh have moved to eighth in ICC Twenty20 rankings ahead of Afghanistan following annual update on Friday, said the International Cricket Council.
‘’Beating Afghanistan in T20 ranking is definitely a big achievement for us. They have more T20 players who are playing franchise based tournaments on regular occasions, so they have more T20 experience than us,’’ said Minhajul.

‘’So getting this achievement will give us a boost before T20 World Cup to put a better performance in the tournament,’’ he said.
Bangladesh were in ninth place with 227 points before the update but gained two more points for their performance in recent months.
Australia have taken over from India as the top ranked Test side, displacing the Virat Kohli’s side from top of Test list for the first time since October 2016.
Pakistan also slipper from to T20I rankings after 27 months and were replaced by Australia at the top while England consolidated its position as top-ranked ODI side.
The annual update rates all matches played since May 2019 at 100 per cent and those of the previous two years at 50 per cent. It eliminates results from 2016-17.
West Indies remained at ninth place while Afghanistan slipped to 10th position following the updates.
Bangladesh’s position in one-day internationals and Tests remained unchanged at seventh and ninth place respectively.
