Bangladesh captain Mashrafee bin Mortaza said on Saturday that he is not ashamed for his below par performance in the World Cup.
Mashrafee said that he is neither a thief nor he is ashamed of himself when a journalist asked him on whether he is comprising with his self respect to make a room for him in the national dressing room.
There is lot speculation about Mashrafee’s future in the recent past in the media he retirement talks is chasing Mashrafee, 36-yrs, from last World Cup after his poor performance in the biggest global event where he managed to pick only one wicket but he failed to hide his disappointment when question was raised regarding his self-respect, he is human after all.
‘’ (Let me clear) regarding self-respect, do I steal on the field. Am I thief?’’ Mashrafee questioned in angry manner when a journalist asked him whether his ego is dented through all the talks going around despite his illustrious career.
‘’ I just cannot make out what is the relation between self-respect or embarrassment in game of cricket. So many offences are committed around like stealing and corruption and they don’t have the shame and if I don’t get the wicket on the field, that would make me feel embarrass. Am I thief?,’’ he said.
‘’I will be criticized if I am unable to pick wickets but why should I be embarrassed? I am playing for Bangladesh. If I can’t do it, they will exclude me. This is simple. I am not playing against Bangladesh,’’ he said.

‘’Anyone can have bad form, but you can questioned only if you are lacking dedication or discipline. Another thing is very common all over that you will be criticized if you are not getting wickets,’’ he said.
‘’But when you talk of (compromising) self-respect, then it’s not correct. I don’t agree to that,’’ he said.
Recently Bangladesh Cricket Board announced that Mashrafee will end his tenure as Bangladesh captain with the upcoming ODI’s against Zimbabwe while he will be considered in further international assignments if he is fit and performing.
BCB made the announcement after Mashrafee, who opted out from the national contract, declined to take a farewell that they planned to arrange to pay tribute for his service.
Mashrafee insisted that he is not ready to disclose anything about his present status with the board adding that he will let everyone know when he feel it’s time to say good bye
‘’What is there to clear. Board president has said everything,’’ said Mashrafee.
‘’I don’t think it’s necessary to reveal what I have discussed with the board. What the board has said you know it and that’s necessary,’’ he said adding that he is not ready to disclose anything further.
‘’I should not reveal it [whether it’s my last series] now. And if I have anything to say, I would say. What the board President has said, you know it already,’’ he said. .
‘’Management will think about it[ my selection] and so I am not thinking about it. And I was not thinking even before this selection[ against Zimbabwe]because that’s the decision of the board and management,’’ he said.
‘’If I have anything to ask I will tell it to the board and they will tell you about it but I don’t think there is any need to clear anything from my part,’’ he said.
