Bangladesh Cricket Board is having some hard time to find title sponsor for the national team, A team and Under-19 and Women’s national team.

The recent performance of Bangladesh national cricket team has been satisfying, which has made a negative impact in their process of consigning a title sponsor for the BCB authorized teams.

BCB had a long term title sponsorship with one of the leading mobile phone network operators- ROBI. In August 7, 2018, when the contract between the two organizations came to an end, country’s highest cricket operation board still had enough of bidders who were interested in title sponsorship of BCB authorized teams.

BCB tied for a contract of 17 months with Unilever, a British-Dutch origin company, which ended January 31, 2020, starting from September 1, 2018. And for the contract, Unilver had to pay 33 crore (BDT).

Since the conclusion of that contract, BCB has come up with an offer of 38 months, starting from February 1 and will be ending on March 31, 2023. And the company that will be knotting into that contract, will have to pay 85 crore (BDT) as base price.

But the recent performance of the Bangladesh national team has seen organizations turning their face away from BCB.

BCB had announced to submit the tender for a new title sponsor on January 8. The last date of submitting the offer from the interested organizations was January 26.

As no organization have shown their interest, the deadline day was extended for the bidders. But that did not have any impact too.

An anonymous source of BCB said this is an ‘uncomfortable’ situation for the board.

“This an uncomfortable situation for us. We never seen anything like this before. The poor performance of the national team, could be a reason for this. We have seen sponsors trying their best for the contract since the 2015 World Cup after their good performance. Now because they are turning their back , it might be an outcome of their recent performance,” he said.

Though, Under-19 World Cup triumph has become a glimpse of hope for the board for sealing the contract.

“As we don’t have any bidders, we will have to sit with some of the organizations. We expect many company will show their interest after Under-19 team’s success in the World Cup,” the BCB source added.
