My cold and fever are not going away, Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza asked Bangladesh Cricket Board chief physician Debashish Chowdhury right after coming out from an hour-long meeting with the selectors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.

The meeting, that was scheduled on Thursday before being cancelled in the last minute, proves that the inspirational ODI’s skipper is available for the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe, who are slated to play three-match ODI’s series against the host at Sylhet respectively on March 1, 3, and 6.

Though BCB president Nazmul Hasan said that Mashrafee will lead the side for the last time against Zimbabwe, the skipper hardly made any public comment on the issue.

Furthermore, the cancellation of the last meeting where he was seen going away after waiting for the selectors for half-an-hour at SBNS creates quite a buzz in the media fraternity.

However, everything went on smoothly during the meeting that was headed by BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan along with two selectors- Minhajul Abedin and Habibul Bashar and BCB game development chairman Khaled Mahmud, who also happens to be the vice-chairman of BCB cricket operation.

‘’There was no formal meeting. We have played together and now we sat together just to have a chat among us,’’ Mahmud told reporters trying to prove a point that suggested it was nothing official.

Bangladesh selector Habibul Bashar echoed the same sentiment insisting that his relationship with Mashrafee is more than something that lies between selector and a team captain.

However, chief selector Minhajul Abedin gave a clear picture when he insisted that Mashrafee made himself available for the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe officially.

Earlier, Minhajul said that they were not aware of anything about Mashrafee though after the meeting it seemed everything is sorted out between them.

‘’If Mashrafee performs than he will play beyond Zimbabwe and I don’t see any problem with that,’ said Minhajul.

If he can perform he is our auto-choice player,’’ he said.

Pace bowler Saifuddin and Al Amin is expected to return in the squad that will see four senior cricketers as well- Mashrafee, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah.

‘’We have sent the team to the president and now after he approves we will make that public,’’ said Minhajul.
