Bangladesh Test skipper Mominul Haque said on Saturday that he is impressed with the seriousness of senior cricketer Tamim Iqbal in the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League, country’s lone franchise-based Twenty20 tournament.
Bangladesh experienced Test opener Tamim Iqbal scored an unbeaten double hundred to help Islamic Bank East Zone take a healthy lead against Walton Central Zone at the end of second days play at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.
Tamim made unbeaten 222 runs while Mominul scored 111 runs as East Zone made 395-2 at the close of the day to earn a healthy lead of 182 runs with eight wickets in hand.
Tamim looked determined to showcase his stroke making ability as he scored 222 runs and the south paw was in marauding mood today with his bat and almost playing like one day style in the four-day match.
He ended up scoring 221 runs of 281 balls with the help of 30 boundaries and along with Mominul added 296 runs partnership for the second wicket.
The highlight of his batting came in the form of his approach during his stay in the wicket all day as he never looked to come up with any defensive attitude rather batted in an ODI mode picking five boundaries in the first five overs of the play that suggested he was carrying the kind of form from early hours of the play.
Though he looked tentative at times against the off-spin of Shuvagoto Hom but he looked in total control against the pace bowlers and later also scored freely against the spinners as well.
“I do not know if you were present from the start but I was present and I can only tell you that it was just outstanding,’’ said Test skipper Mominul Haque who accompanied him in the middle against Walton Central Zone at the SBNS on Saturday.
The senior player like Tamim Bhai has not played red-ball cricket for a long time and he was very serious today as he knows there is Test series just round the corner and so it depends on how everyone taking it ,’’ he said pointing his fingers towards that the left-handed batsman blazed despite playing BCL after six years.
