Sylhet Thunder’s South African bowling coach Nantie Hayward said that bowling in partnership will be key to progress in the upcoming edition of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League.

 Thunder is all set to counter Chattogram Challengers on the first encounter of Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League and according to their bowling coach Nantie to make things work for them bowling in partnership will be the main thing.

 “Massive. If one guy bowls and one other struggles (it will be tough). We all work together as a team. So, all trying work as a partnership to make it work” Nantie told cricfrenzy.com at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Hayward said if one bowler bowling giving less runs away then other bowlers need to pick up wickets in order to make the partnership work but noted bowling lengths can also be crucial while bowling. 

“If one goes for a few, the others don’t… If one keeps it tight, you should pick up a wicket as well. That’s very important for me” he said. 

“Sometimes if you ball on lengths on this kind of wickets, I won’t say what lengths we want to bowl but yes if you bowl proper lengths, you can get away with a lot” he added.
Nantie, the-42-year-old red-faced South African fast bowler once considered as the successor to Allan Donald as the spearhead of the South African face attack.

The right armed fast bowler, who debuted for South African national side in 1999 against England, was famous to create genuine pace and for the ability to get a bounce 

In terms of being successful with ball, Nantie said bowlers need to explore the strength areas of the batsmen so that they can keep it simple which he later labeled as the most important thing 

“Explode different batters. Know where their strengths so, and bowl outside those strengths, and keep it simple as possible” Nantie said.

“That’s I think the most important thing for young bowlers to keep it simple” he added 

Starting with a haphazard run-up full of attitude, Nantie later altered his run-up but the pace was still there and used to bowl with an attitude that had no point whatsoever in making friends with batsmen.

Nantie though admitted the shortest format of cricket is mostly dominated by the batsmen but said bowlers should also value every opportunity in T20 cricket 

“Well, ninety percent that’s true,” Nantie told when asked whether batsmen contribute more in T20 games.

“But there is also an opportunity for bowlers to get in to the games and when you get the opportunity, you must cherish at the opportunity 

“As a batting side, it’s all about scoring and make it count, I think if you want to be successful, one of your top focus, should bat straight through the innings, batting at 120 strike rate. And then rest that comes in can ever go. I think that’s for me if you want to be successful” Nantie told reporters as tipping for the batsmen. 

As Sylhet has made up a team mostly with the Bangladesh local players, Nantie believes ‘bonding’ between the players of his squad is the main strength of his team in the tournament.

We are young team, to be honest. Passionate, players want to learn” Nantie said.
