Shakib Al Hasan was discharged from the Melbourne Hospital on Friday (October 12) after spending the last seven days under the supervision of Dr. Gregory Hoy. However, the date of his return to Bangladesh is still undecided.

The all-rounder was ruled out of the Asia Cup midway through the tournament as his longstanding finger injury turned serious due to an infection. After coming back home from the UAE, he had to be admitted to the Apollo Hospitals Dhaka as his hand was swelling alarmingly. Shakib also had to undergo a surgery to remove the pus from his finger.

The 31-year-old had then flown to Australia to consult with Dr. Hoy, where it was found out that he cannot undergo a reoperation on his injured finger for at least the next six months.

Shakib has been ruled out for three months and the injury that he sustained to his left little-finger during the tri-nation series final against Sri Lanka might also jeopardize his participation at the ICC World Cup next year.

Shakib’s medication period will end in December this year and he will return to action by January 2019. If the infection does not recur in February-March, he will go under the knife in April, just weeks before the global 50-over event in England.
