The search for Bangladesh head-coach has been somewhat of an issue since Chandika Hathurusingha left the post to join the Sri Lankan national team. Bangladesh team has seen a lot of ups and downs in the recent tournaments since his departure.

The Tigers lost the tri-nation series to the island nation, got whitewashed by them in a T20I-series and lost the Test-series as well. However, they recovered from all the negatives and knocked out the Lankans from the Nidahas Trophy in their own backyard and had nearly won the title until a spirited Dinesh Karthik took the match away from them with last ball over-boundary.

Bangladesh played a total of three series in the last three months without a head coach and their bowling coach, Courtney Walsh took on the role of the interim head coach during the Nidahas Trophy.

Although there have been numerous dates and names revealed ahead of the selection of a new head coach, the Bangladesh Cricket Board [BCB] hasn’t yet come to a stable decision as to who should they hand over the duty to.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon has reportedly said that a new coach will be appointed by mid-April. He also confirmed that World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten wants to work with the Tigers as a consultant rather than becoming their head coach.

“A selection of a new coach may be finalized any time in the middle of April,” Papon said. “Kirsten had been offered the role of a head coach but he disagreed. He wants to be a consultant. We are done with the primary talks.”
