‘BPL holds a special place in my heart’ – Paul Stirling
Paul Stirling during interview, Cricfrenzy
Stirling, known for his explosive batting and consistency, recently shared with Cricfrenzy about his experiences in Bangladesh and the special bond he shares with the league, where he first played in the 2012-13 season.
Stirling has been a notable presence in the BPL over multiple seasons, representing various franchises. In his 19 matches, Stirling has scored 425 runs at an average of 22.36 and an impressive strike rate of 150.7. His highest score in the tournament is 66, and he has notched up three half-centuries while smashing 55 fours and 17 sixes, showcasing his aggressive batting style.
"I remember it vividly [first season]. That was my first-ever franchise league. I came here to play for Sylhet Royals back in the 2012-13 season," Stirling shared with a nostalgic smile.
"Since then, I’ve gradually started playing in other leagues around the world, but BPL has always been special to me. I even visited Bangladesh in 2008, but unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to play any matches during that tour"
Stirling’s connection with Bangladesh goes beyond the cricket field, as he has developed strong friendships with several Bangladeshi players over the years, particularly Shakib Al Hasan.
"I know a lot of people here, but I’m particularly close to Shakib. We haven’t played together much, but we’ve faced each other numerous times. Playing across the world has also given me plenty of opportunities to chat with him," Stirling revealed.
Adapting to the dynamic nature of franchise cricket has been a foundation of Stirling’s success. He explained how different teams and conditions push players to evolve.
"It depends on which team you’re playing for. You have to evolve with time. Plus, franchise teams have their own expectations and play different styles of cricket. Keeping those in mind, I adapt myself to fit into every situation," he explained.
