Chasing a daunting target of 198, Barishal found themselves in trouble at 112-6 after 7.4 overs. But Mahmudullah and Faheem turned the tide with a stunning onslaught, taking their team home with 11 balls to spare.
Faheem smashed an unbeaten 54 off just 21 balls, including seven sixes and one boundary, while Mahmudullah anchored the chase with 56 not out off 26 balls, featuring four sixes and five fours.
The duo’s partnership of 86 runs in just 5.5 overs left the Rajshahi bowlers helpless. Faheem sealed the win in style with a towering six off Rajshahi’s Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, sending the Mirpur crowd into a frenzy.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Faheem highlighted his chemistry with Mahmudullah.
“We knew anything could happen in T20 cricket, so we kept our plan simple—focus on two overs at a time and aim to win step by step,” Faheem said.
Faheem also credited Mahmudullah for guiding him during a slow start.
“Mahmud bhai is magic! I had just 1 run off my first 6-7 balls, and I asked him what was wrong. He told me, ‘Just stay at the crease.’ Having an experienced player like him really inspires you, makes it easier to handle pressure, and simplifies everything,” Faheem added.
Barishal had initially misjudged the wicket, thinking it would yield around 150-160 runs. However, the pitch improved as the game progressed, providing more support for the batters in the second innings.
“The wicket felt soft and slow initially but became firm and dry later. Credit to Yasir and Anamul for playing brilliantly in the first innings,” Faheem said.
