Nayeem Hasan’s brilliant last over ensured Chattogram’s third win of the tournament, overshadowing the comebacks of Mushfiqur Rahim and Towhid Hridoy, who returned to competitive cricket after recovering from injuries.
Batting first at the Sylhet Academy Ground, Chattogram posted 198/7. In response, Rajshahi’s innings fell just short, ending at 194 runs.
Mushfiqur and Hridoy showed glimpses of their class, putting up a 102-run partnership that nearly took Rajshahi to victory. Mushfiqur scored 46 off 31 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes, while Hridoy smashed 69 off 50 balls, hitting 3 fours and 6 sixes. However, the momentum shifted in the penultimate and final overs when both set batters were dismissed.
Nayeem emerged as Chattogram’s hero in the final over. He dismissed Hridoy on the first ball, as the batter’s lofted shot found the fielder at mid-wicket.
Pritom hit a six on the next delivery but was trapped LBW two balls later. A run-out on the fourth ball left Rajshahi needing 6 runs off the last 2 deliveries.
New batter Shafiul Islam managed just a single off the fifth ball, leaving Rajshahi needing a boundary to tie or a six to win on the last ball. Nayeem, however, bowled a perfect yorker to Farhad Reza, sealing a thrilling victory for Chattogram.
