Dropped catches, missed run-outs, and stumping opportunities allowed Dilara Akter and Sobhana Mostary to lay a solid foundation with a record-breaking 103-run opening partnership. However, the middle and lower-order batters failed to capitalize on this momentum, leading to a narrow loss for the home side.

In the first T20 match of the series on Thursday at Sylhet International Stadium, Ireland defeated Bangladesh by 12 runs. Batting first, Ireland scored 169 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Bangladesh managed 157 for 7, falling short of the target.

The game came down to the final two overs, with Bangladesh needing 18 runs to win. Ireland’s Orla Prendergast turned the game in her team’s favor with a remarkable 19th over, conceding no runs and picking up two crucial wickets. In the final over, Arlene Kelly sealed the win, conceding only five runs and taking another wicket.

Despite the loss, Bangladesh set a new record for their highest chase attempt in T20 internationals, surpassing their previous effort of 152 against Pakistan in pursuit of 168.

However, their highest successful chase remains 146 runs against Sri Lanka in Colombo last year, where they won by six wickets.
