Bangladesh secured their maiden T20I victory against the South Africa women's team on South African soil, clinching a 13-run win in Benoni today.


Leg-spinner Shorna Akter emerged as the star performer, claiming five wickets for 28 runs in a closely contested match, leading Bangladesh to an extraordinary triumph.


This remarkable achievement marked Shorna's first five-wicket haul in T20Is, making her the fourth Bangladesh bowler to accomplish this feat and the youngest from Bangladesh to achieve such a milestone.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, Bangladesh made a strong start with Shamima Sultana and Murshida Khatun forming a solid 44-run opening partnership.

Shamima departed in the seventh over after scoring a run-a-ball 24, while Murshida continued to anchor the innings, adding a crucial 41-run stand with Sobhana Mostary.


Murshida remained unbeaten with a match-winning 62 off 59 deliveries, featuring six fours and a six. Captain Nigar Sultana Joty contributed a brisk 21-ball 34 to propel Bangladesh to a competitive total of 149 for 2 in 20 overs.


In response, South Africa's opener Anneke Bosch played a vital innings, scoring a 49-ball 67 that nearly took the game away from the Tigresses.



However, Shorna's exceptional performance turned the tide, as she secured two wickets each in the 18th and 20th overs. Shorna dismissed Sune Luus in the 16th over and then claimed Bosch and Nondumiso Shangase in the 18th over.


Requiring 24 runs from the last over, South Africa managed 10 runs off Shorna's final over, finishing with a total of 136 for 8. Nahida Akter, Fahima Khatun, and Rabeya Khan also contributed with a wicket each.
