Bangladesh cricket team are heading to their seventh World Cup campaign with their opening match against Afghanistan at Dharmashala tomorrow.
Bangladesh were not a member of the ICC in 1975 and as a result, they were not eligible to participate in the first World Cup. The Tigers failed to qualify for the next five World Cups from 1979 to 1996. Bangladesh appeared in their first World Cup in 1999.
The Tigers registered their best performance at the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand when they reached the quarter-finals, having defeated England in the group stages.

ICC World Cup 1999
Bangladesh played their first World Cup match in 1999 against New Zealand at County Ground in Chelmsford which they lost by six wickets. They achieved their first World Cup victory against Scotland in their third group match.
The Tigers then shocked the world when they convincingly defeated a full strength Pakistan by 62 runs to end their campaign on a high note. It was also Bangladesh's first win against a Test playing nation, which made things easier when the side requested Test status later on.
ICC World Cup 2003
After a decent showing in their first World Cup, Bangladesh had a nightmare tournament in 2003, losing five of their group matches. One match was washed out, resulting in the Tigers finishing at the bottom of their group.
ICC World Cup 2007
Bangladesh were placed into Group B along with India, Sri Lanka and Bermuda in 2007 World Cup. This World Cup gave birth to stalwarts like Tamim Iqbal, Shakib al Hasan, and Mushfiqur Rahim. Bangladesh stunned heavyweights India defeating them by five wickets and reached the Super Eights for the first time after defeating Bermuda by seven wickets.
In the Super Eight round, they created another upset by defeating South Africa by 67 runs. However, that was their only victory.
ICC World Cup 2011
Bangladesh entered the World Cup as the hosts but failed to get past the group stages in their home soil. They lost their opening match to India by 87 runs. In their next match against Ireland, Bangladesh won by 27 runs. In their third group match, Bangladesh were humbled by the West Indies in an embarrassing nine-wicket defeat.
In their final group match against South Africa, Bangladesh experienced another severe batting collapse and were all out for just 78 runs. As a result, they lost the match by a massive 206 runs, thus eliminating their chances of advancing to the quarterfinals.
ICC World Cup 2015
Bangladesh had a dream 2015 World Cup when they made it to the quarter-finals. In their first group match Bangladesh pipped Afghanistan, appearing in the World Cup for the first time, comprehensively by 105.
Their next match against Australia was washed away. In their third match, Bangladesh were outclassed by Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh created history chasing 319 runs against Scotland to record their highest ODI run-chase and the second highest run-chase in World Cup history. Bangladesh faced India in the knockout stage, the Tigers lost the match by six wickets.
ICC World Cup 2019
Bangladesh team participated in the World Cup with a high expectations having been one of the most experienced teams in the World Cup led by Mashrafe Mortaza.
Bangladesh started off their World Cup campaign by defeating South Africa by 21 runs, thus becoming the first Asian team to defeat South Africa twice in the World Cup.
Bangladesh also managed to win two more matches against West Indies and Afghanistan finished at number 8th position having won only 3 out of their 8 matches (1 match washed out.
