Postponement of IPL 2020 could cost BCCI BDT 3697.06 crore

Indian Premier League 2020 has been postponed till 15 April amid rising coronavirus pandemic. The league was scheduled to be played between March 29 and May 24. There is now speculation over possible cancellation of the event in the wake of clamor from some quarters.
Business today has claimed that if this years game are cancelled altogether, it could cost the BCCI a whopping BDT 4375.52 crore.
This include BDT 3697.06 crore of broadcast and streaming revenue and BDT 226.15 crore and BDT 452.31 crore of central sponsorship and title sponsorship revenues, respectively, according to the report.
BCCI has already decided to halve the halve the prize money for this years IPL champions and the runners-ups as part of its cost-cutting measures for the upcoming edition.
In a circular sent to all IPL franchises, the BCCI has notified that instead of Rs 20 crore which is Bangladeshi currency BDT 22.62 crore
the IPL champion team will now receive BDT 11.31crore. The runners-up will get BDT 7.07 crore instead of BDT 14.13 crore. The two losing qualifiers will get BDT 4.86 crore each a sharp scale down from last years BDT 9.89 crore.
BCCI is reportedly also mulling various other options including a smaller format or a limited number of venues. For instance the IPL can be played in 38 days (if two matches are played on most days), but that may impact viewership. Also, till what date it can be deferred is also a question as it would be difficult to hold matches during the monsoons, which starts in June.
