Andre Russell’s involvement with the team and the tendency to inspire the players attracted his teammates so much so that they termed his inspirational captaincy as the key reason behind their success.
Under his captaincy, Rajshahi Royals registered their second successive victory in the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League, with an eight-wicket win over Sylhet Thunder on Friday and went a top in the point table.
Notably, it is the first time that Russell, regarded as the most explosive batsman of the world, is leading any side in the foreign domestic tournament.
He, however, had the experience of leading Jamaica Talawah’s in the last Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Russell was seen animated in the ground as she continuously instructed the players and talking to the bowlers about setting the fielding. He was seen reacting when anyone misfields and at the same time inspiring him to do well.
Such was his involvement that, Alok Kapali whose 3-16 in three overs against Sylhet Thunder helped the earn a facile eight-wicket victory said he was very much involved with the team and thereby earned the respect.
“Russell is very much involved with the team” he said.
“I like his attitude. When anyone is bowling, he himself is talking with the bowler and set the field according to the desire of the bowler,” he added.
However, Rajshahi Royals will get three days off before playing their third game against Khulna Tigers at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
