Consistent drizzle across the country ruined the proceeding of the day one of the first round of 21st National Cricket League (NCL) at different venues.

The first day of the two matches was washed out without a ball being bowled while the rest of the two matches were interrupted by the rain.

The first day of the match between Khulna and Rangpur in Tier-1 was washed out and even the toss couldn’t be held at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna. Match between Barisal and Sylhet in Tier-2 tasted the same fate as the first day was washed out at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi.

However when rain continued to play spoilsport, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam ruled the day with 4-55 as his side Rajshahi reduced Dhaka Division to 143-7 in Tier game at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.

The rain allowed just 51.5 overs match on the opening day but being sent to bat first, Dhaka felt the heat of Taijul who caught them in spin-web to take his side in commanding position. Taijul’s four-for however was complemented by pace bowler Shafiul Islam’s 3-40.

Opener Rony Talukdar was the highest scorer for Dhaka with 63 while Joyraz Sheikh made 35.

At Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Chittagong Division reached 147-3 in Tier-2 game against Dhaka Metropolis after opting to bat first. 51 overs were possible on day one before rain marred the day.
