Afghanistan batsman Rahmat Shah said on Thursday that he is happy to score his maiden Test hundred as he came up with brilliant century to lead the way for the visitors in the one-off Test series at Chittagong on Thursday.
Bangladesh’s all spin tactic didn’t provide the expected result as Rahmat Shah proved him as barrier and thereby became the first batsman to hit a century for his nation to lift Afghanistan to a strong position on the opening day of the one-off Test on Thursday at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
At the close of the day that was extended for 20 minutes after a spell of shower, Afghanistan reached 271-5 with Rahmat Shah leading the way with chanceless 102 from 187 balls.
Asghar Afghan was batting on 88 with Afsar Zazai on 35, sharing a record 74 runs in an unbroken sixth wicket stand that was tough pill to swallow for Bangladesh who got the wicket to their bowling strength.

‘’I had the dream to become the first centurion for Afghanistan. so naturally I was very upset when I got out scoring 98 against Ireland. Today I got the chance and scored the century,’’ said Rahmat.
‘’It is a proud moment for me. I am the first person who have the first half century [in Test] for the country and now the century,’’ he said
‘’The wicket was good to bat on especially when the ball was new. When the ball was new, it was disturbing the batsman but as one settled down it became easy to play,’’ he said.
Rahmat said that he planned his innings to play in front foot so that he can negate the spinners better.
‘’It was my plan to play on the front foot. They were bowling in good line and length and had a good field setup for me. It was not being easy for me to score runs that is why I was using the crease and coming on the front foot as well,’’ said Rahmat adding that it was difficult to play the host spinners.
‘’They are not at all ordinary spinners. They have a very good spin attack especially with Shakib Al Hasan. He is the number one spinner in the world and also Taijul Islam got good record in Test cricket and as well Mehidy Hasan. We had mind set for the fast bowlers but they have got spinners in the attack,’’ he said adding to playing in Intercontinental tournament helped them develop their skill in longer formats.
‘’We played a lot of limited cricket in international arena but we also played intercontinental cup which is a four-day cricket tournament. We won that tournament twice and we got to learn a lot about longer version cricket from that tournament. There is not much difference in four-day and five-day cricket,’’ he added
