The players’ new contract with the franchisees is illegal as the seventh edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will see an open draft or auction for listed players including local and overseas on all categories, revealed the tournament’s governing council.
Some players who were the Icon of their respective franchisees have recently transferred to other teams. Shakib Al Hasan was roped in by Rangpur Riders after he left Dhaka Dynamites. Tamim Iqbal also joined Khulna Titans, leaving Comilla Victorians while Mushfiqur Rahim was recruited by Comilla Victorians after he left the tent of Chittagong Vikings.

Shakib’s decision to join Rangpur Riders as their Iconic figure left Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s position in limbo as the ODI captain was the captain and most valuable player of Rangpur Riders too. But as per the rules, two most valuable players couldn’t be in the same team.
It prompted Dhaka Dynamites to raise a question. However in the wake of the problem the BPL governing council called an emergency meeting on Sunday from which they announced that no contract is now valid.
They reasoned that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the right holders of seven existing BPL Franchise Teams executed a Franchise Agreement under which the right holders were granted rights to the Teams till the 6th edition of BPL T20 Tournament. So from the seventh edition all agreement is invalid.
“A new players draft will be held for the seventh edition of BPL. Under this light, the fresh contract of all players with the new franchisees will be invalid from now on,” said BPL director Mahbub Anam.
The governing council is also planning to increasing the BPL teams to eight from seven.
