Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon said that they will give fielding equally importance from now on and the player’s place in the national team will be under threat if he doesn’t field well.

At the same time, he added that they will grill the fielding coach Ryan Cook for Bangladesh’s shoddy fielding in the World Cup and the series against Sri Lanka.

Ryan Cook retained his job at the end of the World Cup while some coaches including the head coach Steve Rhodes lost their job

But Bangladesh’s fielding in World Cup was ordinary and they missed some crucial catches in crucial times of the match. In the first ODI against Sri Lanka, the team also put mediocre fielding performance that angered BCB president to a great extent.

“We have discussed about fielding coach. For the time being, the issue of fielding coach was not in our mind,” Papon said.

“We thought that the fielding coach is good even though the fielding in the World Cup created a headache. But what would I say after the fielding in the match against Sri Lanka.”

“This sort of fielding is beyond the imagination. If someone doesn’t bat well, we give him chance and then he continues bad cricket we bring up his replacement. If someone bowls badly we drop him but if someone doesn’t field well we don’t punish him.”

“But after yesterday’s match what I understood that we have to give same importance in fielding too. If someone doesn’t field well, he will be dropped from now on. What we will do first is to inquire the fielding coach: why it happened. Bangladesh’s fielding wasn’t that bad. So why it became bad suddenly. Firstly I will take the answer from him then we’ll decide whether we would bring up new fielding coach or not.”
